The problem

Vegetation Is A Production Issue

On most sites, grounds maintenance is cosmetic. On a solar site it shows up in the generation figures — and in the compliance file.

Growth that reaches the bottom of a module does not just shade that module. Shading part of a string affects the output of the whole string, so a narrow band of overgrowth along one row can cost far more than its footprint suggests.

Then there is everything else that comes with letting a site go: dry fuel load under the arrays, permit and stormwater conditions that assume the ground is being maintained, and access roads that stop being usable when someone actually needs to reach an inverter.

It Drives Under The Array

Our Raymo Torpedo units stand 21 inches tall. They mow beneath panel arrays rather than around them, which removes most of the hand trimming from the job entirely.

They are fully electric — no fuel, no exhaust and no engine heat near your equipment — and light enough not to rut access lanes or disturb shallow cable runs. Four-wheel drive with zero-turn steering and a very low centre of gravity, driven by remote control from outside the row.

For the ground that is not under panels, we bring tracked machines rated to 60°: stormwater pond banks, dam faces, perimeter slopes and the interconnect corridor. One contractor, one mobilisation, the whole site.

The Questions We Get Every Time

Can you really mow underneath the panels?

Yes. The Raymo Torpedo stands 21 inches tall and is designed to work beneath panel arrays. Whether it clears every row on your site depends on your racking height and row spacing, particularly at the low edge of a fixed-tilt array. Send us the racking type and we’ll tell you honestly what we can and cannot reach.

What stops the equipment damaging modules or racking?

The deck we use for solar work is built for it — a reinforced steel frame with nylon bumpers and suspended caster wheels, specifically so contact with support structure does not become damage.

Beyond the equipment, it comes down to how the site is run. We walk the rows before the first cut, agree exclusion areas with your site contact, and work at a pace that suits the ground rather than the schedule.

Will you rut our access roads?

The electric units are light and were chosen partly for that reason. On the tracked machines we use for pond banks and perimeter work, wide rubber tracks spread the load rather than concentrating it the way a wheel does. If you have soft lanes or shallow cable runs, tell us where and we will plan around them.

Can you handle a portfolio rather than one site?

We run multiple remote machines, so more than one site can be in progress at once and a breakdown on one does not stop the cycle on another. Tell us how many sites and where, and we’ll be straight with you about what we can commit to.

What happens to the clippings and brush?

Everything is mulched on site and spread back across the ground. Nothing is hauled away, which means no disposal cost, no additional gate traffic and no waste manifest to administer.

Can you work while the site is generating?

Our machines are remote controlled, so the operator works from outside the row rather than in among the equipment. Specific arrangements around energised equipment, lockout requirements and site access are set by your safety programme, and we’ll work to it.

Are you set up for our prequalification process?

We are veteran owned, licensed and insured, and registered in eVA for Virginia public procurement. We can provide certificates of insurance naming your entity as additional insured.
